Q&A
WHAT DO YOU FIND AS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR THE CLUB INDUSTRY?
The biggest challenge for our industry is the ongoing need to adapt the business to remain relevant and to meet changing community needs and government regulations.
WHAT MADE YOU SEEK A CAREER IN FINANCE?
I enjoyed commerce and economics in High School – I liked the structure and logic of working with numbers. That lead me to apply for a commerce degree at uni. Then I chose an accounting and finance specialisation in my first year because I was fortunate enough to gain a cadetship at an accounting firm – the rest is history!
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?
I first saw this quote from Albert Einstein in one of my lectures – and now I have it up in my office so I read it every day – ‘Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.’ A bit of a cliche for a person who works in finance, I know!
DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN A FEW WORDS:
Loyal, considerate, honest, conscientious and approachable.
'Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.'
